U2 in show...
It doesn't matter how many times you have been to a "live" show before...there is still something exciting...something magical...something mysterious about the experience. Especially in the moments leading up to the musicians coming on stage....the anticpiation...the excitement of the crowd.....and then the full-on assault of the senses as the band hits the stage and launches into the first song.
There is something about a U2 show that makes the whole concert experience even..."more"...than other shows I have been to. Okay...I am a huge fan of theirs...so I guess I am biased But...the passion they bring to their "live" shows, the rawness of emotion, the blending of technology with the music and the musicians, their political and social awareness, the spirituality, the newness/freshness of the production and the music, the ability to reach down and touch every member in the audience, to bridge the gap between band and audience...is something very few, if any, bands have...can or will ever be able to do quite the same as U2.
I have been to 4 U2 shows previously dating back to 1989 but...I was barely able to breathe before the beginning of this show...I was just so excited, carried away by the emotion of the moment...it was all I could do to stand up straight! Having Leah in front of me was a big help and added to the excitement as this was her first show!
The first song, "City of Blinding Lights" was just simply amazing...Bono marched on stage carrying a Japanese flag..the crowd went crazy and the music was electric....even I was jumping up and down and things really have to be going off before that happens! I have never seen such emotion in perfomers as I saw in Bono that night. In songs "Sometimes" and "One Tree Hill" he seemed to be in tears...exercising the pain of loss...of close family and friends. There was raw power and aggression in "Vertigo", "..End of the World", "Elevation","The Fly!,"Bullet" and the fragility of "The First Time", "One" and "Miss Sarajevo"....political edge and social conscience in tunes "Streets", "Pride". I had kind of hoped to hear "Bad" and "Walk On" as well as "Kite" but one can't have everything. The last song was..fittingly.."All I Want Is You"...and Leah and I very much enjoyed the moment ...... as the words echoed around the arena.
